TOUCH
Five flower-shaped lampshades with embedded webcams and purple LED lights, real-time hand-tracking system, five-channel sound synthesis, five microphone stands.
Variable dimensions.
“Touch” is an interactive sound sculpture activated by hand and finger movements. The work explores listening, gesture, and the sensation of encountering an invisible sonic object.
Visitors engage with the installation through movement rather than physical contact. As hands move through space, sound responds in real time, creating the impression of touching something unseen yet present. In this way, “Touch” examines how sound can become tactile, and how interaction with an invisible sonic object can feel intimate, embodied, and emotionally charged.
“Touch” can be configured in different ways, allowing the spatial arrangement to shape the experience. In one version, the installation forms a circle, creating a garden-like sonic environment. The work can also be presented with bone-conduction headphones, opening its embodied qualities to people with hearing disabilities. “Touch” is part of my doctoral artistic research on sonic sculpture at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki.
